BroVis Wireless Networks announces breakthrough Outdoor broadband wireless access technology & products for the Indian Subcontinent market.

Becomes the First Equipment manufacturer to provide last mile Broadband Access and Campus Wireless Distribution Service in Non Line of Sight Point-to-Multipoint (P-MP) & Point-to-Point (P-P) Configurations.

Chennai, September 7, 2004 – BroVis Wireless Networks, a global developer and manufacturer of Next Generation Broadband Wireless Access Systems, announced today the launch of high speed BroadCell solution suite comprising AS1000 Base-Station, AC100 subscriber unit and WIOS™ (Wireless Infrastructure Operating System) 1.0 system software. These products are the first to deliver broadband in the fast growing Indian subcontinent market using multimode, concurrent band 802.11 standards based (Wi-Fi) architecture over wider distances than traditional systems in rough and challenging NLOS (Non Line of Sight) terrains, providing raw throughput of upto 54Mbps. The solution suite can enable wireless access or distribution within the last mile as well as up to 5km in a NLOS application and in a Point-to-Multipoint network configuration and up to 22km in LOS (Line of Sight) Point-to-Point applications.

The BroVis BroadCell suite will deliver cost effective and comprehensive solutions for Enterprise Campus Network Managers, Wireless Internet Service Providers, Hotspot Service Providers, and Telcos enabling fast deployment for both rural and urban networks. NLOS capabilities allow operators to reach more customers while reducing overall costs. This solution can be used for various outdoor applications including mesh networks. specialized indoor applications, as well as complete wireless indoor - outdoor integration.

BroVis has also developed an advanced radio technology called TrueEXOR™ (Extended Outdoor Range). This compelling Radio technology, which removes many limitations in the current standards, combined with WIOS software provides the ultimate platform to deploy, manage and scale wireless access networks in an easy, cost-effective and reliable manner. With this, BroVis Wireless Networks will provide a complete and comprehensive Wireless Infrastructure Management solution.

Many regions in the Indian subcontinent have very poor or non-existent wireline infrastructure since terrains are very challenging in nature. In such cases, it is almost impossible to get clear Line of Sight (LOS). Hence wireless last mile access and wireless distribution of bandwidth over wider distances becomes a necessity for broadband service providers.

Says Mr. Muthu Logan, CEO of BroVis Wireless Networks “By taking this first step, we are embarking on the mission of providing affordable Broadband for the masses in the Indian subcontinent region, both urban rural communities. We have the right technology, the right set of products, a clear price-performance advantage and the best people to achieve our Broadband Vision. Our solutions are standards based and software centric and can seamlessly bind with the existing infrastructure of indoor/outdoor campus networks and service provider networks, thus enabling cost savings in both initial capital layout and on going operational costs. At the end user level, this will also enable low link cost in a Point–to-Multipoint access environment and reduced per subscriber connectivity cost in a distributed environment”.

The first version launched today is based on standards based multimode 802.11 technology and BroVis intends to launch its next set of products during the next financial year which will feature 802.11n and 802.16 (Wi Max) technologies with smart antenna solution, Point-to-Multipoint and Point-to-Point for high speed data, voice and video. With these products, BroVis will enable customers to deploy WMAN (Wireless Metropolitan Access Network) installations.

In India, BroVis’ products will initially operate using 802.11b or 802.11g and have been extensively tested for many months in rough terrains. They also feature an in-built 802.11a capability that can be easily turned on in the future, when the capabilities are allowed by regulatory authorities for increased data rates and better overall performance as well as for backhaul applications. BroVis products and solutions will provide the maximum flexibility and price-performance advantage in licensed as well as unlicensed band network deployments. In many other regions, BroVis products provide immediate high speed outdoor capabilities in licensed and unlicensed bands. In addition, BroVis’ AS1000 and AC100 systems offer the industry’s highest level of security using the AES encryption standard, integrated functionality and complete infrastructure management capabilities like QoS and advanced Subscriber Management.

BroVis is already working with Broadband Service Providers in Mumbai and Chennai and Enterprise Campus customers in other regions. Mr. Niraj Parmar, DGM - Operations, Hathway Bhawani Cabletel & Datacom Ltd, a Hathway Group Company says, “Mumbai terrain is very challenging for wireless deployments. Existing wireless solutions do not address our application needs and are also not cost effective from both CAPEX & OPEX stand point. So, we selected BroVis, which can offer us a combination of a NLOS wireless access with a scalable infrastructure. We are pleased to be working with a visionary company like BroVis because they not only have next generation standards based products for rough outdoors, but also a true commitment to the cause by developing, operating and testing in the Indian subcontinent region”.

In the FY 2004 (Apr-Mar), BroVis will be focused mainly on the Indian Subcontinent, Asia Pacific and MEA regions. In FY 2005, it has plans in place to expand into certain key European regions, Japan and the US. Truly global in nature, BroVis has set up a powerful ecosystem of technology and manufacturing partners including Atheros Communication, Inc, USA, a leading developer of advanced wireless chipsets, AU-KBC Research Center, Chennai, an institute which spearheads wireless and security research and PACTRON, USA, a contract manufacturer of high density wireless boards.
